Course Description

Marriott used to have the most rental listing, but now it’s AirBnB and it’s not even close.  The taxi company thought their competitors were other taxi companies.  Younger adults are now doing more cash transactions on Venmo then on any other single mobile platform.  How does a company like Fujifilms pivot to another profitable line of business, while a company like Kodak goes from billions to bankrupt?

This session explores the concepts of Business Agility, the ability for a company to quickly adapt to market conditions both internally and externally.

We will start by exploring the need for business agility and explore what companies have done to enable business agility.  From there, we will showcase some of the key concepts that enable business agility.  This includes:

  • Agile concepts and methods
  • Design thinking
  • Lean startup
  • Business Design Models

This session is interactive and will have a couple of videos as well.  Upon completion, attendees will understand the need for business agility and have some tools to help their organizations align their next moves.

The session will also include mini-interviews with Association executives who will share their practical experience with implementation of Agile Development in their organization.

Instructor Bio: Richard K. Cheng, CST, PMP

A graduate of Virginia Tech and renowned Agile expert, Richard has presented keynote talks at conferences and events around the globe, authored publications on Agile and product management, and is a member of Mensa. Richard has extensive experience working with the federal government, large companies, small startups, non-profits organizations, and associations. In addition to being one of the few Certified Scrum Trainers (CST) accredited by the Scrum Alliance, Richard is also a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), and Project Management Professional (PMP).

With over 25 years of IT experience both in Argentina and the United States, Guillermo has been leading the development and implementation of technology for companies in industries such as engineering, urban development, healthcare, banking, international commerce, marketing, government, NGOs, and regulation.

In August 2009, Guillermo was promoted to director, Information Systems, to lead the modernization of the Council’s technology, including the website, line of business applications, infrastructure, and helpdesk. Guillermo holds BS in Information Technology and an MBA from Carey School of Business at the Johns Hopkins University. In January 2017, Guillermo was promoted to Chief Innovation & Information Officer with new responsibilities in innovation and business development, specifically the commercialization of NCARB’s technology.
